If You’re Reading This You’re Too Late and other new music releases!

If you know me well, you know I have the most diverse taste in music, like.. ever? I can be listening to Jeff Buckley one moment and switch to Taylor Swift just a little later. Today I wanted to talk about some new releases from this past month, including Drake’s new album “If You’re Reading This You’re Too Late“.

I don’t listen to rap that often, unless it’s Drake, really. AND THIS GENIUS decided to pull a Beyoncé and release an incredible new album. Without any announcements he told everyone they’re too late. The album contains 17 (!) new tracks. They’re very Drake sounding so I personally don’t think he stepped too far away from his comfort zone. However you don’t have to change great things. My favorites on this album are “Legend” & “Know Yourself”. Definitely worth checking out if you are into rap and r&b.

Next up is Rihanna‘s (and ugh, Kanye West, I really dislike this man) new song featuring living legend, Sir Paul McCartney. It’s called “FourFiveSeconds” and it kind of sounds like it was recorded on a drunken Friday night and it should have never seen the light of day and that’s exactly the reason why it works so well. I must have listened to it about a hundred times already (I told you about the issue I have when I really like a song).

And last but not least, the soundtrack of the most anticipated movie of early 2015, the soundtrack of Fifty Shades Of Grey. I have to admit, I totally read all 3 books of the series and even though I wasn’t blown away by the writing style, I was definitely curious and I wanted to see the movie. I started reading reviews and I wasn’t so convinced anymore. BUT let’s talk about the soundtrack of this movie. I’m a huge The Weeknd fan and as soon as I figured he wrote a song for the soundtrack I knew I’d love it. The Weeknd’s “Earned It” is a classic Abel song and he killed it. He also has another song featured on this album, equally as great. Ellie Goulding‘s “Love Me Like You Do” is a super catchy song as well and I think it matches pretty good with Ana’s character. You can also find other artists like Sia, The Rolling Stones & Frank Sinatra on the record. So who knows, I have a feeling the soundtrack might be way better than the actual movie.

What are your favorite new releases of February so far? Are you planning to watch Fifty Shades or are you not interested at all? Oh and except for Rihanna’s new release you can listen to both albums on Spotify for free as well!

  1. I actually wasn’t a fan of Drake’s new mixtape or fourfiveseconds but I do love the 50 shades soundtrack! Also I just discovered Ibeyi, when you get a chance listen to their self titled album, it’s quite interesting! :)

I gotta say, not too stoked on the 50 Shades movie but the soundtrack looks awesome. I’m also a huge fan of the Weeknd; his first mixtape was my favorite and Ellie Goulding actually covered his song “High For This”. Definitely some baby making music. :P Drake can also do no wrong in my eyes. I love to see all of this Canadian talent! <3 Representing "the 6" (Toronto) haha. I haven't been too up to date on February new releases but I'm excited for all that 2015 has to offer. Keep us updated on new music, please!

    • The Weeknd is so good live too! He definitely does not disappoint. I’ve heard her cover! SO GOOD! And hahaha I agree with the baby making music statement ;) Glad you like this type of post! Will be working on more music posts in the future xo

  3. the hair & the heart

Oh, not a February release (I don’t think) but the new song “Black Sun” by Death Cab For Cutie is unreal. Such a change from their typical sound. Definitely recommend a listen!

  4. Omg I’m so excited that you like Drake!!!
I love basically every track he’s on. I haven’t checked out the 50 shades soundtrack mostly because I hate the idea that it’s not a movie too (no offense intended) but one soundtrack I did love was The Great Gatsby that soundtrack was fire!

    Xoxo

    • Yeah Drake has some serious skills. Some of my favorite songs are his! And hah none taken. Definitely check out the soundtrack because it’s well worth listening to! AND OH MY GOD yes! The Great Gatsby soundtrack is one of my favorite movie soundtracks. So on point! xo

  5. Naomi,
I have not tried any of the music you mentioned yet, but I will give it a listen soon. I read the first 50 shades book on vacation this summer….mainly because everyone said it was a fast read & I needed something to pass the time. I didn’t care for it. Thought the “love” scenes were super cliche. And I didn’t like the dialogue or way the main character talked/thought. I don’t plan on seeing the movie. The book wasn’t worth spending my time on. Maybe the soundtrack will be better.

    • The soundtrack, or at least in my humble opinion, is actually really good. It’s a nice mix of older & newer songs and some incredible artists are featured! It’s definitely a fast read and wasn’t truly the best I’ve read so far but maybe I’ll watch the movie at some point. Not rushing to the theaters though!

  6. im not the biggest kanye fan as well but that 4-5seconds songs is just stuck in my head!!! so good! :D

  8. I want to see fifty shades! I bet the album is amazing–I have to listen. The songs in the trilogy were so good and seductive.

  11. I’ve been obsessed with 50 shades soundtrack since I saw the movie <3

  12. 50 Shades of Grey is a terrible movie (bad acting, bad screenwriting, bad delivery, haha), but the soundtrack is incredible!

  13. Thanks for this post, was great to read! :)

I have a new outfit post up on the blog, would love to know your thoughts:

  14. I am psyched about the Drake album but have yet to listen to it. It should get on that because I’m sure he’ll perform some new songs at Coachella this year.

  17. I absolutely love your taste in music. I think we’re twins seriously looool. Friends will look at me funny when they’re in my car listening to some hardcore rap, then the next song is One Direction loool. Ahh but Drake, I love him, and I think I love it even more when he sings. Can’t believe he pulled a Beyonce, what a copycat. Ellie Goulding is amazing too. Too many favs here, you’re the one person I can trust to always bring me good music.

    • Hahaha yep. That’s me. I can go from some serious Damien Rice, next Taylor Swift and then listening to the Foo Fighters. I love me some One Direction, their latest album is so damn catchy. And I think I’m the same when it comes to Drake! Doing It Wrong is my favorite song by him. I’m so excited to know you trust my taste in music! I will try & blog about music more often in the future! xo
